Lessons on Creativity: Personal Creative Inventory
During my MBA program at Pepperdine, I enrolled in a creativity and innovation course. The readings, lectures, and projects helped me to identify areas of personal growth, strategies to instill creativity in myself and team members, and meaningful ways to engage with others.
American Women: Past, Present, and Future
I would like to acknowledge the freedom women hold to weigh the facts and cast a vote that represents our diverse visions for the future. I attribute my right to vote to the women and supporting men at the Seneca Falls Convention and the activists who came before and followed after.
Drawings, Dogs, and Friends
I have been inspired to create a custom illustration of my friend’s dog. This will make a relatively inexpensive, yet meaningful gift. With her birthday just around the corner, this will be the perfect timing. It’s also a great way to practice Adobe’s new CC app, Fresco for the iPad.
Just for Fun: Donald and Friends Flat Illustrations
One fun way to improve one’s skill in design is through experimentation. My subject: classic Disney characters, of course!
Same Words, Different Language
I’d like to revisit an old conceptual poster design from college. The minimal design turned out to be one of my favorite projects in my junior year. Clear communication is a key to any lasting relationship. The poster opens the door to reflect on gendered speech, or language use, and the complications that result from the differences in how individuals use their words.
Ulmus americana, American Elm
Ulmus americana is, as you may have guessed, native to North America. It can be found in literally every state in the Continental US. Considering it’s popularity with the wildlife, its welcoming arms, its non-flashy appearance, its ability to adapt to almost any environment, and its vastly complex root structure guarded just below the surface of the soil made it the perfect tree for me.
Finding Joy
Yes, it’s been confirmed: the seasons are very different in SoCal than in Michigan. The change will take some time to adjust to. However, just because there are vast differences, doesn’t mean I can’t find joy and embrace the beauty of the seasons.
Type Drawing
My darling west highland terrier, Tayen Lace, passed away last Wednesday. I intended to fly back to Michigan to see her one last time in two weeks, but unfortunately she didn’t make it. As tribute, I made a type drawing. May she rest in peace.
Little Branding Moments
When a good friend of mine asked for a logo, I knew I was in for a challenge. Here is a casual peek at my design process for a branding project. Enjoy!
Dogs, Especially Westies
Dogs are one of the best demonstrators of love. I am convinced Tayen knew she loved me as soon as she met me, and she’s loved me unconditionally ever since.
Plants Make Everything Better
Plants make everything better. Sadly, when you have no natural light to shine on them, you are limited to using artificial or 2D plants to liven up your dank room. Here are a few fun watercolors I painted to hang in my bathroom where no live plant would survive.
Why I Don't Write
I have nothing interesting to share; I’m not important; I’m really not very good; I’m not an expert in anything; and no one would even read it. These are the reasons why I didn’t write. Read on to hear why I am writing now.
