The Pepperdine Esports team leaders requested a logo featuring a heraldry badge and reference to the christian cross. I saw value in using a wave to tie the esports team to other Pepperdine Athletic team branding. The final design then worked well with the existing Athletics typeface, directly linking the two identities.
